P3 is a program developed the Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA), in 2002,
for is member brokers and forwarders as well as freight bill audit/payment and
trucking companies wishing to conduct business using common terms and conditions.

P3 brings a new level of trust and performance to the broker/forwarder-motor carrier
relationship.

What does P3 stand for?
"Platinum Performance Program"

What is P3?
* P3 is a licensed logo and trademark, which identifies brokers, freight forwarders,
freight audit & payment companies and carriers in the marketplace who agree to follow
the business practices specified in the program.

* Members who do not follow the program rules or who violate the licensing
agreement will lose their membership and their right to use the P3 logo or name.

Who decided on the best practices?
The P3 Board of Governors, with input from TIA brokers and several carrier groups
developed and maintain the best practices agreements.

What does P3 offer shippers and carriers?
* An easy means of identifying brokers operating at a higher level of professionalism
and integrity.
* An identity with shippers and brokers as a better carrier to work with.
* Ability to avoid many of the common carrier complaints about brokers including:
o Late or non-payment of charges
o Timely disclosure of significant shipment information
o Fair treatment for accessorial services (layovers, driver labor, pallets, ordered-not
used trucks, etc.)

What happens if a shipper or carrier has a problem with a P3 broker?
* P3 requires brokers and carriers to execute a written contract which should include a
provision for dispute resolution.
* P3 provides a voluntary mediation process and binding arbitration process for use
only by P3 members. The mediators and arbitrators are a group of attorneys with
significant experience and understanding of transportation law.
o Mediation is a process where the mediator tries to help the carrier and broker
resolve the dispute voluntarily.
o Arbitration is a binding process where the participants agree to abide by the final
decision of the arbitrator.
o Failure to comply with the results of an arbitration process will be grounds for
revocation of membership.
o Litigation is still available if arbitration is not utilized.

How is the program managed?
* TIA staff provides administrative support. The P3 Board of Governors, with an equal
number of brokers and carriers was appointed by
* TIA's Board of Directors to oversee the program.
